Fonts can be fun

so, I was looking at a competitive book for some research, and when i opened the pages, i saw a gorgeous font. the entire book was laid out in a font that looks like an old letterpress type. it was beautiful. it’s called Regula.

I’ve come to the realization that the type of things that get me excited, creatively,is as simple as a bunch of colored pencils, or even a fresh new box of crayons.

I sound like a kid, but truly, these were the things and are the things that made me want to be an artist or to be artistic in some way. Sad thing is, I can’t even find my Prismacolor colored pencils. Here I have broken out my sketchbook today, but can’t find the right ‘utensil, if you will, to grace its fair white pages.

Did you know there is a Colored Pencil Society of America? At first I thought it was a joke but it’s a real not for profit that many artists that use colored pencils as their medium, belong to. How cool is that? Chec k it out www.cpsa.org

My mother in law stopped by today and nentioned me that Michael’s had a 50% off one item coupon in today’s paper for Labor Day. It might have been a sign. Note to self; next time they have a special coupon, my goal is to go buy a new set of color pencils.

Ok, so this is my very first blog post ever in my life. It’s kind of exciting–and a little nerve wracking. What should I write? More importantly, what am I going to do today that’s creative? Does cooking count? probably not since I do that almost every day. And cleaning isn’t so creative either. And I definitely don’t want to open up my bag of work I brought home from the office. And I’m not in the mood to knit right now. I kind of want to get out of the house and go to JoAnn Fabrics or Michael’s or something to get inspired…but it’s already 10:00 and I still have to run to the grocery store to get the stuff I need to make for the barbecue we’re going to at 4:00. Maybe Chris can pick it up for me? Nope. He’s gone fishing on his new boat. Hmmm… looks like I’m going to have to rifle through the black hole I like to call my office and see what art supplies are lying around that I can mess with–quickly and not create a huge mess to clean up later. Why must being creative be so restricted? Because I haven’t figured out how to make time for my creative stuff yet. Because if I want to paint, I think about what a pain it’ll be to get everything out and then have to clean it up afterward. Or I think about how I won’t be able to finish the painting in one sitting and when am I going to have time to paint again? Better not even start, right? Well, I guess it’s time we stop putting these things off before we’re too old to remember how to do them. But I’m going to have to start slowly otherwise I might get overwhelmed. I’ll let you know how it goes…

P.S. Thanks for setting this all up, Nina. Your first post made me a little teary-eyed. I’m looking forward to whatever this blog brings to us.

Welcome to Nina&Kell. This is going to be fun.

Here’s what I’m thinking this could be. A joint project, if you will. Wait, no, the word ‘project’ sounds like work. Joint venture?

Well, anyway, I’m envisioning our blog to be a place to talk about what we want to do, what invigorates us and or what creative thing we did today. I’m thinking this could be a place to find clips from the web that might inspire each other and, or, post pictures that are visually impactful. Basically we can make this whatever we want it to be. So, I guess the sky is the limit.

As administrators, we can both make changes to the blog/site at any time, too. I don’t know everything about WordPress but have been told it has better capabilities than Blogger/blogspot. So I’ll be learning about the quarks of the system along with you. For instance, I chose a theme (or design) for our blog. Do you like it? I’m okay with it for now. This can be changed at any time, if we find another one we like. I wanted it to be colorful and fun. I’m sure there is another one out there that has our name written all over it.

Ok girl, talk to you soon. Can’t wait to see your post. Oh – by the way – we can create “Pages” just like a website to ‘categorize’ things we want to blog about. I was thinking we could have pages that involve the latest creative project we’re doing, or latest book either of us are reading or whatever else you can think of to have a specific page for. I even think we should write up our ‘about’ together, too.

Alright – much to do and not enough time. .

Can’t wait to see how this develops!
